FAQ's
1. Is is too late to sign up?
No!! It is not too late to sign up! The more the merrier!
2. Do I have to have a website or blog to participate? Do I have to be on MySpace or Facebook?
No! All families are welcome!
3. Does it cost anything to participate?
No, but yes. To participate, it costs nothing. However, the sender is responsible for paying the shipping costs to send the blanket to the next family. I try to keep the blanket within a single state for as many transfers as possible. When you sign up, you can opt to NOT send the afghan out of country. We have plenty of families that ARE willing. This is not meant to be a hardship on anyone.
4. What do we do once we receive the afghan?
You take pictures! Lots and lots of pictures! Then you email them to me at thet21travelingafghanproject@gmail.com or post them on the Facebook Group Photo Album. You will get your own page on the T21 Traveling Afghan Project blog which will host the pictures you take and a link to your blog or website (if applicable.) It will also link to any posts you make on your own blog or website containing pictures or information about the afghan.
You will get your own page, just like The Flege Family's!
5. What will happen to the afghan and journal when the journey is complete?
There has been lengthy talk about turning the pictures and the journal entries into a book that will be made available to any interested party. When we get a bit further into the project, I will begin to look into the affordability of this option. That way, everyone will get to see the pictures, read the entries and keep a piece of the afghan to always have.
As for the afghan itself, it has been suggested to present it to a family who gets an in-utero diagnosis or has just had a child with Down syndrome to welcome them to the family.
6. How do I wash the afghan? DO I wash the afghan?
You are more than welcome to wash the afghan and it is suggested you do so before sending it on if you have animals, smoke in the home, etc. The afghan is machine washable with like colors and you can toss it in the drier! If it needs mending at any point, I will have it sent back to me to do so. I will also be making a "copy" blanket, just in case!
7. What if we have an afghan emergency and need to get ahold of you ASAP?
My phone number is on the inside cover of the journal traveling with the afghan! Feel free to use it for any reason, even just to say, "We have the afghan and wanted to say hello!"

I LOVE the idea of giving the afgan to a family who has just had a baby with Down syndrome or has a baby in-utero. What an amazing gift that would be!!
I agree - the idea of giving the afghan and journal to a new family with a baby or baby-on-the-way is AWESOME!!!
nice idea - that's true... but do you really think, this journey is going to END? to be honest - i don't expect it in my hands before mid 2010. and i am absolutely sure, the number of families participating will rise... which is great of course. but maybe we have to think of some kind of definition to the word "end" in this case? or do you think e. g. australia will stay at two families only? i highly doubt it - and would be disappointed if i am proven wrong :-)
What about washing the afghan? I am sure those with small babies might have some concerns about keeping the little ones healthy. (At least I know I did as a new parent).
Ben, as long as we have families interested, it will continue to travel! And the afghan will be in Germany before 2010, I can promise you that! Karly, I am adding washing instructions to the FAQ now, great point!!
