Where It's Going
Ben's dad, Martin, has put together a Google Map to help us visually see where our afghan has been! The locations are marked with our button, the location of the afghan and the blog link to the family who currently has the afghan.
Each time the afghan is send to another state or country, I will update the link, as it will change as more locations are added! (Just a warning for anyone who wants to link this on their blog as well!)
He did an amazing job! Danke, Martin!
Here it is!

The T21 Traveling Afghan is being mailed out to the first family TOMORROW! More on instructions, the plan of action, etc. when it goes out!
Words cannot express how excited I am or how much this has come to mean to me (and apparently a number of other families!) I cannot wait to get the afghan on it's way and compile pictures of the families who come in contact with it! We have added a few more countries, Australia for one! Let's go world wide, folks! The only way to do that is to get the info on as many blogs as possible and spread the word as far and wide as you can!
There is NO deadline to be included in the project! If you, or someone you know, is interested, I would be more than happy to add names to the project list at ANY time!!
Tomorrow Is The Day
I have to admit, when I got the idea for the T21 Travelling Afghan, I was thinking it would be something fun to do. I enjoy seeing the numerous pictures of children with Down Syndrome on their family blogs and I thought it would be neat to tie them together with a common strand through the afghan.
What I wasn't anticipating was the huge response. We have families from all over the United States, Germany and Canada. Two families are also interested in sending the afghan to a parent serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan to involve them in the project. One is bringing the afghan to her child's Down Syndrome group to get a picture of ALL the kids with the afghan.
What started out as something "neat" and "exciting" has taken on meaning. It's taken on a sense of importance beyond entertainment.
I receive numerous emails a day from families who want to participate telling me what this project means to them. And I want to invite everyone to leave a comment regarding what this project means to you.
Why is it important to your family, or to the Down Syndrome community as a whole? What do you want to see accomplished by the project?
Comments are open folks!
Nothing Short Of Amazed
There is a T21 Afghan is making an amazing adventure!!
The handmade blanket is traveling from one family to another who has a family member with Down Syndrome. The family member can be of any age, from birth through the senior years. The family can also be located anywhere on the globe.
The afghan will travel from one family to another, along with a journal.
Each family, upon receiving the afghan, takes a picture of their family member with it and we post it on on this blog under the Label "T21 Travelling Afghan". After having the afghan for bit, the family writes a note in the journal and sends it off to the next family, who's address I will email to them.
I would like to see the afghan leave each family within a weeks time. You may certainly ship it out sooner than that, if you prefer! While we would all love to hang onto it for as long as possible, we have a huge list of families waiting for their turn!
I would LOVE to see the afghan hit all fifty states and as many countries as possible! Let's send this baby far and wide to include all the families who would like to participate!
To sign up, please click here.
Please post about this on your blogs, FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. with a link back to this page. That way we can spread the the word out as far and wide as possible.
Shipping cost will be the responsibility of the sending party, therefore, I will make a smaller sized afghan.
Please feel free to respond or email with any questions, comments or specifics I may have overlooked!
Here is the button that you can put on your blog to help spread the word! The code is located on my sidebar under the button. Clicking on the button will link back to this post so everyone can be aware of how it works!

The Basics

This fund has been created through The T21 Traveling Afghan Project in order to provide afghans for children with Down syndrome who are ill or facing other challenges.
This money goes towards purchasing yarn and covering the shipping costs of the afghan. You may make a donation towards a specific child or donate to the fund in general.
When you donate, the child will be sent a card with your name on it and you will be informed as to which child your donation provided an afghan to.
If you are interesting in donating to An Afghan Of Their Own Fund, please contact me at chandosjoy@gmail.com
