Happy Third Anniversary, Traveling Afghan! (Then And Now: Mayson F.)

Today is a very special, monumental day!  Today the T21 Traveling Afghan Turns three years old!

Three years ago, Little Miss Mayson was the very first recipient of the Traveling Afghan!  Since then, the afghan has visited a good number of United States and will shortly enter it's FOURTH country!  So far, the afghan has visited the United States, Canada and England.  In a few weeks it will be off to Germany!

Not only was Mayson the first recipient of the Traveling Afghan, but she was also the entire reason I began the Their Own Afghan program!  Mayson just did not want to let go of the Traveling Afghan when her turn ended, so I sent her an afghan of her very own to hold onto and love!

Three years later, it's still her favorite blanket!

Her mom, Amy, sent me some new photos of Mayson and her afghan!

How stinking cute is she???

You can read all about Mayson and her family on their blog, The Flege Farm!

As we head into the fourth year of the Traveling Afghan, I'd like to remind families to only hang onto the afghan for about a week.  The quicker we get it out and about, the more families we can hit.  We have families who were the first to sign up still waiting to receive it!

As it is right now, the afghan will be traveling another SEVEN YEARS in order to hit all the families we have signed up, IF families only keep the afghan for one week!  That's quite a lifespan!

Let's see if we can make this the longest traveling project ever!  (Anyone know the Guinness Book World Record on that one?!?!)

I have one thing to ask of all of you on this anniversary...spread the word!  This project is all about Down syndrome awareness and connecting the ties that bind us together!  Let's make this the biggest, best project we can!

Join us on Facebook, put our project button on your blog (links in the sidebar), follow us on Networked Blogs, blog about us and email your friends and local organizations!

This project has been an amazing thing to see unfold!  While the last year has been a bit slow (I took a year off when I had my youngest daughter) there are some great things ahead for the project this year!

Thank you for your continued support, interest and inspiration!  The Down syndrome community is an amazing thing to behold!

An Afghan Of Their Own Fund

This fund has been created through The T21 Traveling Afghan Project in order to provide afghans for children with Down syndrome who are ill or facing other challenges.

This money goes towards purchasing yarn and covering the shipping costs of the afghan. You may make a donation towards a specific child or donate to the fund in general.

When you donate, the child will be sent a card with your name on it and you will be informed as to which child your donation provided an afghan to.

If you are interesting in donating to An Afghan Of Their Own Fund, please contact me at chandosjoy@gmail.com
